From the beast’s ruined maw comes a horrid, bone chilling, cackle. One that will haunt those of us who hear live through its wrath until the day we die. The cackle is long and cold, the sound having more likeness to a scream of sadistic ecstasy than uncontained joy. There is no humor in the noise for, in order for there to be humor, there must be a soul and any soul this creature may have owned is either blacker than wickedness or long dead.

Remnant, a world full of many brave heroes, many of whom have laid the foundations for the future of Huntsmen and Huntresses, and insidious villains, some of whom are more vile than the fearsome creatures of Grimm. Many of these heroes, along with their prospective villains, have taken a place in the pantheon of history in Remnant through legends, myths and wonderful tales of their bravery and treachery that often threatens to burn the world, and its inhabitants, to cinders.

“I do not seek vengeance. No. My wrath has extended far beyond such a simple, brutal act. No. What I seek is justice. Justice for myself and justice that is too long overdue for my people. Justice against the most vile beast that walks this world.” She pauses and folds her hands in front of her, looking as regal and absolute as a queen of deities. “Humans, humans. They will feel every ounce of suffering the faunus have endured. Shed every tear that has been shed in the face of their cruelty.” A sound escapes from beneath her mask, a faint laugh. “The best part is they will feel a millenia of sorrow in the span of an instant as I tear everything they love to bloody, stinging, shreds.”

This is one such tale. One with brave heroes and a vile villain. But what will proceed the ending of this tale. A tale that we will embark on together. A tale with no black and white. No truly righteous hero or completely evil antagonist. For this is a tale of a war lost to not only time but also thick shadows, laced with the good of all and many tragic losses that shall never be acknowledged.

"Why don't we get a happy ending? We're the heroes right? So where's our happy ending, huh?" The woman screamed, tears streaming down her face as the memories of her precious dead surged through her.

And so our fable begins, dear reader.
Along with what you're about to read I also need to tell you some things about the setting that may not come off as obvious enough to catch. While it is revealed through the story that it is set a short while after the Great War it is never firmly established exactly how many years it has been: 33 years.

Final Note: I will be keeping the story out of the main story. Although, as the main story goes along, I will make parallels between, as well as a cameo or two.

(RWBY, characters, lore, and setting, belong to RoosterTeeth and other respective parties. This short series is only meant for entertainment and my own personal ego.)
